AN INTRODUCTION
A Naturopathic Doctor (ND) is a primary care general practitioner
trained as an expert in natural medicine. NDs diagnose by
taking a thorough history, performing physical exams, and
ordering laboratory tests. They utilize the latest advances
in medical science and integrate them with time-tested naturopathic
principles and practices. NDs cooperate with all other branches
of medical science, referring patients to other practitioners
for treatment when appropriate.

TRAINING &
EDUCATION
Not all naturopaths are created equal! State-licensed Naturopathic
Doctors have graduated from a four year, graduate-level naturopathic
medical school. Coursework includes a comprehensive study
of the medical sciences such as biochemistry, physiology,
pathology, physical & clinical diagnosis, cardiology,
neurology, gynecology, and pediatrics, to name a few. In
addition there is extensive training in naturopathic therapies,
including diet & nutriant therapy, botanical medicine,
homeopathy, hydrotherapy, manipulative therapy, and counseling.
A significant part of the curriculum includes clinical clinical
experience, treating patients under direct supervision of
licensed narupaths at school clinics and in community medical
clinics.
A Naturopathic Doctor takes rigorous professional board
exams so that he or she may be licensed by a stateas a primary
care, generalpractice medical provider. This extensive training
gives the doctor the ability to understand health and healing
from both conventional and natural perspectives and to use
this information in a balanced, responsible way when treating
patients. |
